Myadi police protest against overcharging on food

Dec 18, 2017-Myadi police (temporary police) personnel recruited for election security in Dolakha district have started protest from Monday over the price charged for the foods served to them. The term of the temporary police personnel is nearing its end.

They began the protest against the difference in food price for Nepal Police personnel and Myadi police personnel. The agitating temporary police personnel said that they were charged extra Rs 25 for the same food in comparison to regular cops.

As a part of their protest, the Myadi police organised a rally around the market today. Some of them were injured when police tried to intervene and take them under control.

District Police Chief DSP Rameshwor Karki said that Myadi police were unable to pay the amount to the canteen operator who prepared food for the police personnel. After hearing their complaint, the canteen operator was asked to reduce food price for Myadi police, according to DSP Karki.

One Myadi police said that they were being charged Rs 95 for a plate against Rs 70 to the regular police. That’s why they had to resort to protest, he said.

But DSP Karki argued that Myadi police were being provided food for Rs 65.

A total of 755 Myadi police were hired in Dolakha for the elections. Their term will end on January 21.
