Dhankuta folks continue protest demanding provincial capital




Dec 19, 2017-Dhankuta locals continued their protests on Tuesday as well demanding the district be announced as the capital of Province No 1.

Locals organised a protest rally from Madanchok that marched around the city before turning into a corner assembly. Speakers of the programme said that Dhankuta is adequately equipped with physical infrastructure and the district has been a major administrative hub in the east since the Rana regime.

Dhankuta residents had started protests lobbying for the provincial capital five days ago.

Meanwhile, Dhankuta denizens residing in Kathmandu also staged a sit-in at Maitighar Mandala in the Capital in solidarity with Dhankuta protest.

Federal Parliament member Rajendra Rai, Industry Minister Sunil Bahadur Thapa, lawmakers Mohan Narayan Shrestha and Uday Nepali, provincial assembly members Niran Rai and Indra Mani Parajuli and Dhankuta Municipality Mayor Chintan Tamang among others participated in the sit-in.
