Nov 26, 2017-The Ministry of Home Affairs has said the federal parliamentary and provincial assembly elections held in 32 districts on Sunday remained peaceful.
The ministry had stepped up the security measures following a series of explosions carried out by Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) targeting the election candidates in the run-up to the election.
The ministry said that no incidents of fatal attacks against the voters and candidates were reported and the voting was not hampered anywhere.
Spokesman at the ministry, Narayan Prasad Sharma Duwadi attributed the peaceful conduction of elections to the effective and good security provisions adopted by the ministry.
“Due to the ministry’s security plans, the election was not disturbed anywhere,” said Duwadi.
Meanwhile, Police Headquarters said that a total of 10 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were recovered from various places across the country during the election period. Police Spokesman Manoj Neupane said that most of the IEDs were fake and were planted to create fear and panic among public.
The IEDs were recovered from Jajarkot, Nuwakot, Darchula, Rupandehi, Rolpa, Dolakha, Kapilvastu, Baglung and Taplejung.
