Adhikari, Lama in semi-finals



Dec 19, 2017-Eva Adhikari and Utsha Lama advanced to the U-10 girls’ singles  semi-finals of the 15th Jayakar Memorial National Junior Tennis  Tournament on Monday.
Adhikari inflicted a double bagel defeat on Nala J Maskey while Lama  saw off Adya Paudel 6-2, 6-4 on the opening day of the tournament at  the Satdobato Lawn Tennis court.
Making it to the U-9 girls’ singles qaurter-finals were Darsheel  Shrestha and Boris Adhikari. Shrestha beat Saswosat Bajracharya 4-0,  4-0 and Adhikari defeated Harsit Pant 4-0, 4-1. Jenny Khadka eased  to a 4-0, 4-0 win over Samragyee Lama to enter the U-9 girls’  singles last eight.
Azaa Regmi, Prakriti Shrestha and Sneha Yadav also advanced to the  U-14 girls’ singles quater-finals. Regmi battled to a 6-4, 6-4 win  over Aisha Dolkar Gurung, Shrestha got the better of Sirista Rai 6- 4, 6-3 and Yadav dispatched Nimisha Dhakal 6-1, 6-3.
Making it to the U-14 boys’ singles last eight were Kubehang  Chemjong, Aryan Giri, Aadit Agrawal and Saroj Tamang. Chemjong  inflicted a double bagel on Auyush Gurung, Giri eased past Safal  Shrestha 6-1, 6-1, Agrawal recovered from a second set meltdown to  beat Sakshyat Shahi 6-4, 0-6, 6-4, and Tamang battled to a 6-1, 4-6,  7-5 victory over Pranav Manandhar.
The pair of Prerana Koirala and Subhangee Laxmi Shah beat Sirista  Rai and Azaa Regmi 6-1, 6-0 to enter the girls’ doubles semi-finals.  They were joined in the last four by Isha Shree Shah- Sharvani  Shrestha and Bijisha Shrestha-Abhilasha Bista. Shah-Shrestha defeated  Prakriti Shrestha and Sneha Yadav 6-1, 6-1, while Shrestha-Bista  overcame Anne Mathema and Catherine Mathema 6-1, 7-6.
Organised by Man Jayakar Tennis Academy, the tournament offers Rs 248,000 in prize money. In all, 59 junior players are participating in the six-day tournament featuring U-9, U-10, U-14 and U-18 singles events in both the boys’ and girls’ categories as well as boys’ and girls’ doubles events.
