Govt urges Prez to endorse NA election ordinance

Dec 19, 2017-Government spokesperson Mohan Bahadur Basent has urged President Bidya Devi Bhandari to endorse an ordinance related to election of the National Assembly (NA) in order to ease the process of smooth handover of power.

Speaking at a press conference organised to make public the government’s opinion on contemporary political issues of the country, he said that the government’s attention has been drawn over obscure remarks made by some political parties at a time when preparations are underway to unveil the election results.

He said that the ordinance on the elections of members of National Assembly was not yet endorsed due to dispute among the political parties.

Saying that handing over the power would be easy if the Head-of-the-state authenticated the ordinance, Basnet said that the government has expected positive move from the President.

Responding to queries of journalists that the government has been continuing the appointment process even after the elections, he claimed that the government would not be a hurdle for making the appointments until the PM resigned.

“We will not work in against to the constitution,” he said.
